Join us for a guided driving and partial walking tour of the Ft. Chaffee Historic District in Ft. Smith. Established in September 1941, Camp Chaffee helped meet the U.S. Army’s urgent need for firepower and armor. A year earlier, Congress passed the Selective Service and Training Act, bringing thousands of draftees into military service. Camp Chaffee was built as a major component in the Army’s training and readiness program. WWII-era history now intersects with modern planning in a walkable urban community – Chaffee Crossing and its Historic and Entertainment District. Following our tour, an Ebbing Air National Guard Base representative will update us on the Air Education and Training Command, the 33rd Fighter Wing, the Arkansas National Guard and other partners positioned to train allied pilots.
